Nyx grinned at Orrion when he spotted the limp rabbit under the younger wolf's paws. "Great. And now we know where the warren is, we can come back occasionally for a snack." He nudged his own rabbit with a forepaw. "We'll have to be careful about overhunting, though. We don't want to drive them into moving their warren just to escape us." A group of rabbits this large and close to the heart of their territory was too precious to risk losing. Come winter, this would be a way to keep them alive when most other prey had become scarce.
Without further ado, Nyx dipped his head again to feed. The spirits of both rabbits lingered about, confused and uneasy. The spirit of Nyx's own victim clung to him as he tore into the succulent flesh of its former home, trembling and crying. The other spirit hung around in the open ground between its body and Nyx. He made a mental note to send the poor things on their way once he was done eating. This was what had made hunting distasteful for him when he'd been newly Chosen -- sensing the distress of the alienated spirits of the animals he'd killed. It still made him a bit uncomfortable, but he'd mostly gotten over it. Sometimes he'd have to shoo the disembodied spirits off if they were too bewildered to move on; they'd hang around their bodies, or they would follow him around, drawn to his element.
Nyx made short work of his snack. Rabbits were small prey, most of the meat worth eating on the hindquarters. He wasn't particularly hungry, but food was food, so he ate most of the rabbit anyway. He'd had a few too many nights in his wanderings where he'd bedded down with an empty belly to take a juicy morsel like this for granted.
